چکیده

In an aplanatic optical system, where the entrance pupil is not located at the front focal plane, a corresponding quadratic phase is expected at the back focal plane. However, tightly focused optical fields evaluated by methods based on the traditional Richards-Wolf approach, lacks this quadratic phase. In the current work we calculate the focused field, for both high and medium numerical apertures, based on the Stratton-Chu diffraction integral in a 2D system. We find that the quadratic phase factor depends on the numerical aperture, and it approaches the corresponding paraxial value for lower numerical apertures. References and links 1. B. Richards and E. Use of Zernike Polynomials and SPGD Algorithm for Measuring the Reflected Wavefronts from the Lens Surfaces

Recently, we have demonstrated a new and efficient method to simultaneously reconstruct two unknown interfering wavefronts. A three-dimensional interference pattern was analyzed and then Zernike polynomials and the stochastic parallel gradient descent algorithm were used to expand and calculate wavefronts. In this paper, as one of the applications of this method, the reflected wavefronts from t...

Joint optimization of phase diversity and adaptive optics: demonstration of potential.

We study different possibilities to use adaptive optics (AO) and phase diversity (PD) together in a jointly optimized system. The potential of the joint system is demonstrated through numerical simulations. We find that the most significant benefits are obtained from the improved deconvolution of AO-corrected wavefronts and the additional wavefront sensor (WFS) information that reduces the comp...

Influence of generalized focusing of few-cycle Gaussian pulses in attosecond pulse generation.

In contrast to the case of quasi-monochromatic waves, a focused optical pulse in the few-cycle limit may exhibit two independent curved wavefronts, associated with phase and group retardations, respectively. Focusing optical elements will generally affect these two wavefronts differently, thus leading to very different behavior of the pulse near focus. As limiting cases, we consider an ideal di...

Holographic optical elements (HOEs) recorded with arbitrary aspheric wavefronts can now be analyzed with a holographic raytracing design program. The recording wavefronts are defined by analytical phase functions, for example, a two -dimensional ...
